BLACK SPATIAL RELICS

A New Performance Residency about Slavery, Justice and Freedom

uPCOMING events

JULY 5 - JULY 30, 2023

Black experimental performance is core to the work and play of finding new freedoms for ourselves. All of our Black diasporic performance and living practices - in music/dance/theatre and beyond - have been seeded atleast in-part by curiosity, testing, dreaming and remaking of our homes and bodies. Named by Germaine Ingram, Walking in Luminous Blackness : A Laboratory for Black Experimental Performance is a new program of Black Spatial Relics in residence at the Strawberry Mansion Reservoir - stewarded by The Discovery Center. On this land that was a multi decade site of Black imagining, kickbacks, fishing, first kisses, second kisses, leisure, bird watching and so much more, we will gather with Black co-created/devised methodologies of play and performance making over the next month! We invite you to come through! This year’s facilitators are - Abdul-Aliy Muhammad, Arielle Julia Brown and Germaine Ingram with open rehearsal sharings from brilliant Black makers as well. This space is for Black folks who like to play. All facilitations will be adaptable for varied ranges of movement and ability so if you wanna come through, it’s for you and it’s free. Over the next couple of days we will share descriptions of each workshop. In the meantime, check the schedule and let us know if you plan to come through!
